About this infographic

Illustrates key context and data on the use and perceptions of substance use in the construction industry. Information is based on input from a national study about workplace policies and practices related to substance use and working in various industries. This infographic is part of the Workplaces and Substance Use series.

Three key points of interest you will find in the document:

  • About 3 in 10 (33%) construction workers and managers in safety-sensitive positions, and 2 in 10 (18%) construction workers and managers in non–safety-sensitive positions reported consuming alcohol or other drugs within two hours before or during work, or being hungover, intoxicated or feeling high while at work.
  • Construction workers and managers in safety-sensitive positions are more likely to say substance use is an issue at their workplaces compared with those working in non–safety-sensitive positions (including a comparison of which substances they believe are an issue).
  • Information on how to obtain training to improve approaches on managing substance risks within an organization.
