Denna’s areas of expertise include public policy, governance, partnership building and understanding emerging issues.
Biography:
Denna Berg knows the harms substance use policies can have on individuals if the policies are not based on evidence. She has a passion for using an informed perspective, including principles of equity, to hold governance accountable.
Denna has more than 10 years of public policy experience. She joined CCSA in March 2021 to help foster understanding and create awareness of substance use issues. Before CCSA, Denna was a policy advisor for the Ontario College of Pharmacists and a senior policy and strategic communications advisor in the office of the Ontario Deputy Minister of Energy. She holds a master of public policy from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto and a bachelor in environmental studies from the University of Toronto. She was a CanStudyUS Fellow at the Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) Leadership Lab.
Denna is a board member for Direct Your Life, which is a non-profit organization in Ontario run by mentors with lived experience navigating the criminal justice system. She also runs a national task force that responds to economic abuse, a form of domestic violence, with the Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment.
In her free time, Denna enjoys making ceramics.
